A COUNCIL has received praise for getting its houses in order.
Whitehall officials say there is clear evidence that Middlesbrough Borough Council's housing strategy is based on extensive consultation with tenants and other home providers, and based on sound research.
The council's programme to deliver improvements was found to be good, and its housing management effective.
The council has won £9.6m from a combination of two Government funds, the Housing Investment Programme and Major Repairs Allowance.
That money will be spent on replacing obsolete heating systems and windows, community safety projects, renovation grants and facilities for disabled tenants, and bringing empty properties back into use.
Councillor John Jones, the council's commissioner for regeneration, said: "We are pleased with the resources and the positive comments - although we want to achieve an even higher rating."
