AN EXHIBITION is to offer disabled people advice on how to make life easier for themselves.

Tyne Tees Television presenter Sarah Gatenby will officially open the Disability Awareness Day exhibition, in the Optimum Centre, Bishop Auckland College, at 11am, on Wednesday.

Anne Cowie, from Wear Valley Disability Access Forum, which is hosting the event in partnership with the college, said it will give people the chance to find all the information they need under one roof.

"It is difficult for people to access information in the area that we are in," she said.

"We have decided, because it is Disability Awareness Day, to bring resources, information and advice together under one roof."

Some of the exhibitors include Adaptable Clothing, Bishop Auckland College and British Telecom.

Information on a variety of issues, including holidays, home independence, mobility, sensory impairment, and recreational opportunities will be available.

Free transport to the venue has been provided by the Go North-East bus company.
