Foster's North East Premier League Division Two - Chester-le-Street emulated the senior side in defeating Tynemouth by three wickets when David Hawke and newcomer Graham Race both scored 48 in a total of 149-7.

Russell Perry claimed 3-29 and Iain Purdy took 3-31 in the home side's attack.

When Tynemouth made first use of the wicket they realised 148-7 of which Robert Reveley contributed an undefeated 47 and Tony Lion scored 33.

Sunderland were 92-3 when rain stopped play in the match with Norton II. John Barnes added 31 and David Skirving took all three wickets to fall for 36 runs. In Norton's innings which ended on 158-8, Jonathan Pickering hit a good 58 while for Sunderland Andrew Ferguson captured three wickets for 16 runs.

Blaydon defeated Gateshead Fell by seven wickets after restricting the home side to 115-9. Nick Brown added 35 and Mark Foster 39 not out. Gary Stewart and Michael Urwin shared six wickets for Blaydon who were then indebted to Derek King for his innings of 34 and to Paul McElvanney who carried his bat for 37.

Norton III were 94-5 in their game with Benwell Hill who realised 134 but Stockton beat the weather and had eight wickets to spare at home to South Northumberland.

Cameron Johnson top-scored with 30 in South North's total of 119 and for

Stockton, Robson took four for 30 before Stephen Ward finished unbeaten on 50 after Grant Worrall had been dismissed for 55.

Roseberry Group North East Durham League

THREE of the four matches in Division One went ahead and East Rainton were pleased with their performance at home to Littletown.

The visitors were all out for 82 as Ian Kitching claimed three wickets for 27 runs and Fleming took 3-21 before Gordon Steel, with an unbeaten 36 and Chris Yare who carried his bat for 31 swept East Rainton to an eight-wicket victory.

Wearmouth produced the highest score, totalling 195-7 in their match with Washington. Bowman led the way with 65 and Dench added 58 while for Washington, Lyle took four of the seven wickets to fall for 46 runs. Responding, Washington made a bold attempt to reach the formidable target but found Dylan in the Wearmouth attack on top form. He ended with figures of 5-46 and despite a half century by Fowle, Washington were sent back for 161 leaving Wearmouth winners by 34 runs.

David Connelly made a good start to the season scoring 45 of Simonside's 110-7 but his team's total proved insufficient as Sunderland Hospitals won with seven wickets intact. Their match winner was opener Robbie who was still there when the winning run was struck having scored 52 not out.

The other game between Coxhoe and North Bitchburn was called off because the ground was unfit.
