TWO-wheeled travel has been given a boost with the opening of two more sections of the Northallerton Cycle Network.

The £45,000 schemes have been jointly developed and funded by Hambleton District Council and North Yorkshire County Council.

One runs along Goosecroft Lane, between Northallerton leisure centre and Swain Court, and the other through Bullamoor Memorial Park.

They are part of a continuing network of both on and off-road cycling routes in Northallerton, Brompton and Romanby.

The county's cycling officer, Andrew Bainbridge, said: "We now have a high-quality, mostly off-road, link between Brompton, the leisure centre, the Allertonshire School and the north end of the High Street."

Hambleton's head of leisure, David Goodwin, said: "The upgrading of the footpath through Bullamoor Memorial Park provides a convenient route allowing many cyclists to avoid the unpleasantly busy roundabouts on the High Street, East Road and Brompton Road. This link also forms an integral part of the next phase of the network which we hope to provide later this year."
