AMBULANCE chiefs have paid tribute to two long-serving members of staff who have retired due to ill health.

Stockton paramedic Tim Finn and Middlesbrough-based Dave Sedgewick were honoured by ambulance service chief executive David Craig and associate director Ray Walker at a ceremony.

Mr Sedgewick joined the service 24 years ago after serving in the Army for nine years.

He is a keen walker and once raised £1,000 for Scope by trekking in the Himalayas.

Complications from a broken ankle, sustained while walking in Borrowdale, have led to his premature retirement.

Mr Finn is originally from Ireland, but joined the ambulance service 20 years ago.

He said: "I loved every minute, and the Stockton staff are the salt of the earth. I'll miss them like mad.

"I now just fancy lazy afternoons fishing on some quiet riverbank away from the hustle and bustle."
