COUNCIL staff in Darlington are enjoying a sparklingly health working environment after the introduction of an environmentally-friendly cleaning system.
The Neptune Programme is a three-step system which cuts down dust and pollutants whilst reducing the need for cleaning chemicals.
The system uses a vacuum cleaner with a water filter rather than a paper filter.
After four to six weeks, microfibre cleaning cloths are introduced which electro-statically attract dust and bacteria without need for polish and other chemicals.
The final step is the use of an environmentally friendly cleaning agent for lavatories.
The Neptune system has been on trial at Darlington Borough Council's Hundens Lane Depot since November. It has now been extended to the town hall.
Councillor Stephen Harker, cabinet member for community protection, said: "The Neptune Programme is one that has less impact on the environment than other more conventional methods."
