A FORMER butcher, who worked in the trade for 90 years, celebrated his centenary with his family and friends yesterday.
Joseph Pratt has spent most of his life in West Cornforth,
In 1916 he went to work at the Coxhoe Co-op as a butcher and stayed there until he was 65. But after leaving the Co-op he continued to work until he was 90.
During the Second World War Mr Pratt was a fireman.
His wife, Edith, died in 1979.
After his wife's death, Mr Pratt lived alone until moving into the Acorn Grange Nursing Home, in West Cornforth, in March this year.
The has two children, 11 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren. More than 50 family and friends joined him to celebrate his 100th birthday.
A spokeswoman for the nursing home said: "He had a lovely party with lots of visitors. Mr Pratt is a very private person but enjoys his daily visits from his family.
