PUPILS have produced designs to create a cartoon mural in the children's section of a doctors' surgery.
Work by youngsters from Risedale Community College have brightened up the waiting room at Harewood medical practice, Catterick Garrison.
The GPs, health visitors and midwives sponsored the project for year eight and some year nine students, and the competition was organised and monitored by Susan Ison, head of art, and Sheila Plews, art teacher.
Pupils who came up with the winning designs were presented with prizes.
They were Kylie Dransfield, Jenna Waite, Matthew Rennison and Chris Rogers, who opted for a selection of cartoon characters and an underwater theme.
Students from the school recreated their designs in the waiting area.
Mrs Ison said: "All the students involved really enjoyed working on mural design, especially as it was a 'live brief'. They produced some imaginative suggestions and were very focused."
Dr Sioban Watt said: "The team was impressed with the standard of the entries and very pleased with the finished murals, and we have had several positive comments from patients. We are grateful to the students and teachers for the time and effort they put into this project."
