A COUNTY Durham designer has used locally-grown wood to create benches for a city centre.
David Kuegler, who runs the design and manufacturing firm David Craig Limited, has created the benches for Durham's Millennium City public square, in Claypath.
Made from oak grown at the site of Dryburn Hospital, they will allow people to rest while enjoying views of the riverside and the new square.
Mr Kuegler bought three oak trees from Dryburn four years ago and has been seasoning the wood since. He said he thought the benches would fit in perfectly with the development's Made in Durham theme.
The company is a member of Woodland Heritage, and all the wood it uses comes from properly managed forests or recycled stock
