POLICE were last night studying CCTV footage to try to establish how a man ended up at a North-East re-cycling plant where he was found crushed to death.

The body of David John Griffiths was discovered in rubbish at Teesside Waste Management, on Dockside Road, Middlesbrough, on Friday.

A post mortem examination revealed that Mr Griffiths, 39, from the Middlesbrough area, had suffered extensive crush injuries.

The death is being treated as suspicious. He had been drinking in pubs in Zetland Road, Middlesbrough, on Thursday night, and detectives are examining CCTV footage from across the town to trace Mr Griffiths last movements.

Detective Superintendent Mark Braithwaite said: "It is unclear how or why this man came to be at these premises."

Mr Griffiths was approximately 6ft, with an almost shaven head, facial stubble and a thin ginger moustache. He had tattoos on his arms, legs, back and chest. Anyone with information should call (01642) 303187.
