THE father of a young man killed by a rare heart disease is going on stage again to raise money for charity.

Levon Morland, 22, of West Rainton, County Durham, died earlier this year of Wolfe Parkinson White Disease, which causes occasional heart murmurs.

His father, Jeff, 48, is a union official, but in his spare time fronts the rhythm 'n' blues and rock 'n'roll band Barking Billy and the Scrapyard Dogs.

He and the rest of his family are raising money for the charity CRY (Cardiac Risk in the Young).

The band, which featured in a charity night at Durham's O'Neill's Irish pub in February, will be performing at the Daisy Hill, Heugh Edge, near Sacriston, tonight, and proceeds will go to the charity.

A spokesman for the venue said: "It is usually a free night but for this evening there will be a £1 cover charge and this money, together with any monies raised from the raffle, will go directly to support CRY.

"They were due to play our first band night in January but had to cancel because of Levon's tragic death.

"This will be a special night and the place will be rocking.''

The event starts at 8.30pm.
