Nominations are being sought for North Yorkshire's Community Police Officer of the Year.

Anyone who works with community officers on a daily basis and who know the contribution they make to local areas is asked to put forward their nomination with an explanation of why they value the work of the officer in question and what they add to the local community.

The eight local Community and Policing Groups will then select a district winner who will go forward to a final award ceremony, sponsored by GNER, in York in August when an overall winner will be chosen.

Police authority chairman Jane Kenyon said: "We know we have good officers out there doing vital and innovative work and we want the public to tell us about them."

Chief Con David Kenworthy said: "This is a wonderful opportunity to raise the image of community policing which sometimes gets overlooked in favour of the more high profile activities of the police.

"It is also a chance for local people to say thank you to those officers who work tirelessly on their behalf."

To nominate an officer contact the North Yorkshire Police Authority at PO Box 48, Northallerton, DL7 8XA, telephone (01609) 780780 or email NYPA@northyorks.gov.uk.
