THERE was praise all round for a village primary school when it won an award.

Escomb Primary School, near Bishop Auckland, has been awarded a Quality Mark by the Basic Skills Agency (BSA) for high standards across the board.

The award highlights schools where everyone is hard-working and committed to the progress and well-being of its pupils.

To win, the school had to meet ten criteria including pupil performance, staff development and parental involvement in the school.

Certificates and badges were presented to the 220 pupils, and the BSA praised all 30 teaching and non-teaching staff.

Headteacher Keith Taylor said: "This is a nice award to win because it recognises the valuable contribution all our staff make to the school.

"It also praises the pupils and parents, it is great that they can see how important they are to making Escomb Primary a good school."
