PLANNING chiefs are recommending that councillors in east Cleveland reject a plan to build four houses and 15 flats because residents who moved to the new homes would be exposed to factory odours.
The land - once the site of a council depot - is opposite a foundry in Rectory Lane, in Guisborough.
A report to Redcar and Cleveland Council says: "They are currently applying best available technology on the plant, which nevertheless gives rise to consistent complaints of odour nuisance to surrounding premises.''
Council officials are recommending rejection of the plan as the factory "would be likely to cause odour nuisance to any future residential occupiers".
*Residents are being urged by ward councillors at Middlesbrough to have their say about plans to build 94 houses and apartments on the old Poole Hospital site.
Ward Councillor Brenda Thompson said: "These are obviously plans which have major implications for important buildings and open spaces in Nunthorpe, so it is important that local people view the plans and give their comments."
