YOUNGSTERS are taking part in after school activities after the launch of a community centre club.
Auckland Youth and Community Centre, on the Woodhouse Close Estate, in Bishop Auckland, has managed to secure funding for a year for the out of school club which started three weeks ago.
The facility is open to four to 11-year-olds to give them somewhere to go after school and during the holidays.
The scheme co-ordinator, Kerry West, 22, is enthusiastic about the project which has been funded by the New Opportunities Fund.
The trained nursery nurse said: "We have already started activities that have the theme of the seasons. We have been out collecting leaves and have completed an Autumn display board."
Kerry and play worker Natalie Barker, 19, who is a qualified nursery assistant, will also assist children with their homework.
The girls will collect the children from school in a hired mini-bus. Parents can pick them up from the community centre after 5.30pm.
Kerry is working on funding applications to keep the club going after the grant from the New Opportunities Fund runs out.
