GREEN-FINGERED residents helping to brighten up their neighbourhood were rewarded with flowers for their gardens at the weekend.

People were invited to join Tees Valley Wildlife Trust and plant daffodil bulbs at Whinney Banks green-space, in Middlesbrough. For every bulb they planted, they were given another one to plant in their own garden.

Liz Arnold, a bio-diversity officer for the trust, said: "It was an opportunity for local people to get involved in improving their green-space and the own gardens too."
