EIGHT students from Darlington's Queen Elizabeth Sixth Form College have been offered places at Oxford and Cambridge universities.

This year's successful Oxford candidates are: Emma Colthup, who will be studying history and politics; Gillian Gaskill, who will read engineering; Alan le Cras, who will study classics and modern languages; Katherine Lloyd, who will take archaeology and ancient history; Victoria Roe, who will study philosophy, psychology and physiology; and Peter Cuthbertson, reading politics, philosophy and economics.

Fay Tuddenham and Ian Saunders will study for degrees at Cambridge. Fay will study natural science and Ian will read computer science.

Simon Nicholson, Oxbridge co-ordinator at Queen Elizabeth College, said: 'This year more of our students have been attracted to Oxford, rather than Cambridge, and I am delighted with their success. The Oxbridge application procedure is becoming more rigorous each year and it is to the students' great credit that they have been offered places."
