A party was held at a North-East school yesterday to celebrate a Muslim tradition.

Claire Cuthbert, religious education teacher at Grangefield School, Stockton, organised the party for all the Muslim pupils, from years seven to 11, and their parents.

It was held to mark the religious festival called Eid, at the end of Ramadan.

Miss Cuthbert decided to hold the party to celebrate the school's multi-cultural heritage, and everyone was invited to wear traditional clothes and enjoy music and dancing.

The town's International Family Centre helped out with the party food, which included samosas, onion bahjis and meat dishes.

Miss Cuthbert said: "It was a huge success. I am very grateful to everyone who helped me put the event together."
