THIEVES have twice stolen garden furniture from a care home, but replacements are on their way.
Residents of the Albert Cox Residential Home, Middlesbrough, were distraught when garden benches and tables were stolen for the second time in a fortnight.
Replacements made by offenders under supervision are on the way, thanks to the Probation Service on Teesside.
Paul Smith, deputy operations manager for the Teesside Community Punishment Team, said: "This is smart justice all round.
"The residents can enjoy some new furniture, while a group of offenders are actively putting something back into society as part of their rehabilitation."
Tracey Thomas, relief assistant manager at the home, said: "Our residents are really looking forward to making the most of the summer.
"They were all really upset when the furniture was stolen, so it is great that the National Probation Service are making sure offenders put something back into the community like this."
