A DOCTOR from Darlington Memorial Hospital has used his enthusiasm for running marathons to raise money for charity.
Dr Gareth Williams took part in the London Marathon, earlier this month, finishing in five hours 20 minutes to take 20,347th place.
Dr Williams, who lives in Billingham, suffered from asthma as a child and is a former smoker. He quit the habit while training to be a doctor, because someone younger than him died of lung cancer.
He decided to take part in the London race to raise money for the British Lung Foundation.
He said: "I was really glad to finish the race and was delighted with my time. It is a worthwhile charity and I was happy to run for it."
Dr Williams is still looking for sponsorship and donations. The hospital is holding a number of events in aid of the charity.
