Darlington Football Club wave goodbye to 120 years of Feethams history this afternoon - and boss Mick Tait has vowed to make it a day to remember.

Leyton Orient provide the opposition in the final game at DL1 before the club moves to its brand new 27,500 all-seater stadium next season.

And Tait, who is expected to land the Quakers job on a permanent basis in the near future, is hoping to give fans and Feethams a winning finale.

"It's a big day for the football club and the supporters," said Tait.

"We don't want to let them down by losing."

Tait has warned that Orient won't be arriving just to make up the numbers and used his side's win at Hull this season as a prime example.

Quakers recorded a 1-0 win over the Tigers in December in the last ever game at Boothferry Park and Tait is keen to prevent the Os from turning party-poopers today.

"We saw the faces on the people at Hull when we spoilt their party and we don't want that to happen to us," said Tait.

"We've won our last three home games and we'd like to make it four. It would be nice to say goodbye to Feethams with a win."

Tait, who arrived at the club as a player on a free transfer from Reading in 1990, was part of the Fourth Division Championship-winning side in his first season at Feethams.

And the former midfield hard man will today join a host of former Feethams favourites in a paraded around the pitch from 1.45pm.

"Brian Little brought me to the club," said Tait. "They'd just been promoted from the Conference and I was the only player he brought in.

"We ended up winning the Championship with virtually the same team."

Winger Richard Hodgson remains sidelined with a groin injury and is unlikely to play for the club again after Tait last night revealed the Sunderland-born playmaker has turned down the offer of a new contract.

"His agent says he has a chance to go elsewhere and that's between them," said Tait, who has dismissed rumours linking Barry Conlon, Andy Collett and Craig Liddle with moves.

Top scorer Conlon and goalkeeper Collett look set to remain after the club exercised its one-year option on the pair, while Tait stressed that skipper Liddle will be staying put as he has a further year on his contract left.

"Nobody's actually put pen to paper but we'll be taking Barry Conlon and Andy Collett for another year," said Tait.

"Despite all the talk, Craig Liddle will be staying with us next season."

Tait has a virtually fully fit squad to choose from this afternoon.

Gary Pearson returns to the side after missing last week's defeat at Bristol Rovers with a virus, while midfielder Paul Campbell will be in the squad for a final time before he is handed a free transfer.

* A team of former Darlington players are in action tomorrow when they take on a Darlington RA XI side in a fund-raiser for the Brinkburn Road Club.

Former Quakers favourites David Cork, Jimmy Willis, Mitch Cook, John Borthwick and Andy Toman will all be involved in the game which kicks off at 11am. Admission £2.
