THE Lord Mayor of York gets married tomorrow.

Councillor David Horton, who was re-elected to the city council on Thursday, will marry Jane Robinson, of Fulford, at Barley Hall, in York.

The civil ceremony will then be blessed in the Lady Chapel at York Minster with the Dean, the Very Reverend Dr Raymond Furnell, officiating.

The bride-to-be is the head of education at Stockton Hall Hospital, on the outskirts of the city.

She and Coun Horton, 61, have known each other since the late 1970s when they were British Rail colleagues.

Lady Mayoress Kathleen Gibson, the Lord Mayor's daughter from his first marriage, will also be attending the wedding festivities which will end with a wedding breakfast at the Mansion House on Sunday evening.

Coun Horton said: "While it is an unusual event to be undertaking during my Mayoral year, I consider myself extremely lucky to be able to do so, and look forward to tying the knot with Jane."
