YOUNG offenders are working to divert a footpath which is flooded for five months of the year.

Members of North Yorkshire's Youth Offending Team are working with the Dinosaur Coast Project on a five-week scheme at Burton Riggs nature reserve, near Scarborough.

They are clearing vegetation, building steps and installing a footpath along a section of the reserve.

They will also help to create a large mosaic to be installed in the car park at Burton Riggs.

Reparation development officer Julie Kelly said: "This is a brilliant project for the group to be involved in.

"It is a way for them to learn more about their environment and to get a sense of ownership by seeing the project from start to the finish."
