PUPILS at a Darlington school have proved they can find their way around by picking up a national navigation award.

The eight youngsters from Branksome Comprehensive School have been learning navigational skills as part of the Duke of Edinburgh silver award scheme.

Teacher Kay Crossling realised the work they were doing was similar to that needed for the National Navigation Awards so entered the Year 11 pupils for that as well.

The teenagers, who were presented with their certificates on Friday, travelled to Grinton, near Reeth, for an intensive outdoor training weekend.

"They did compass navigation and learnt how to navigate in bad weather conditions," said Mrs Crossling.

"It rained all the time which was good because it meant they had to rely on the compass. They worked very, very hard and have done really well to get an award like this."
