YORK Labour MP Hugh Bayley has welcomed a report that warns of the consequences of Britain rejecting the Euro.

The independent survey compiled by a panel of experts indicates the UK's trade could be damaged, foreign investment could evaporate and Britain would be less competitive overall if it sticks with sterling.

It also warns that delaying a decision also carries a risk and, if the UK is to join, then joining sooner rather than later would be in its interests.

"A total of 315,000 jobs in Yorkshire and the Humber depend on exports to the European Union," said Mr Bayley.

"The EU is the region's most important export market and I am concerned that delaying entry into the Euro is costing jobs and damaging investment in our region.

"As many as 7,954 manufacturing jobs were lost in the Yorkshire and Humber region last year and this report shows further losses will occur if we continue to defer entry."
