Readers Durham County League Under-18s: Haughton, newcomers to the league, had 18 runs in hand of Bishop Auckland.

When they made first use of the wicket, Haughton realised 87 for the loss of nine wickets with Michael Bean contributing 37 with five boundaries.

Alston had a good night with the ball for Bishops and in five overs he returned the outstanding figures of five for 16.

In reply, Bishops managed only 69 for five which included 36 by Pratt and 22 from Cowling. Bean completed a good, all round performance taking four of the five Bishops wickets to fall for only 19 runs in five overs.

Tim Smalley was again among the runs for Tudhoe in their game with Brandon. He ended undefeated on 40 and together with 25 from Jonathan Taylor and 23 not out by Harry Collingwood enabled Tudhoe to reach 113 for two. Both wickets were claimed by Bryden at a cost of 44 runs. Brandon never seriously threatened and were 75 for seven when stumps were drawn. Jeff Brown top scored with 26 and for Tudhoe Ross Hodgson had two for five and Chris Glasper two for 11.

Willington had 54 runs in hand of Esh Winning after totalling 144 for four. Moore ended undefeated on 59, Askew added 34 and Evans 33 for Willington before Esh replied with 90 for seven of which Stuart Hall contributed 40 not out. Stock was the best performer in the Willington attack with figures of three for 13.

James Alderson (40) and Chris Peareth (30) led Evenwood to 130 for seven at home to Newton Aycliffe for whom Wheeler claimed three of the wickets for 26 runs.

Alderson was also in splendid form for Evenwood and had a hat-trick in figures of four for seven, while Mark Little also performed well and his five wickets were taken for the mere cost of six runs in four overs.

At Etherley, Sedgefield overtook the home side's total of 135 for two with no fewer than eight of their wickets in tact.

Under-15s

Ushaw Moor were all out for 20 in 12 overs when they visited Esh Winning for whom Stuart Hall claimed three wickets for 11 runs in five overs, Carl Turner took three for three, also in a five overs spell and David Thornton picked up one wicket for two runs from the one over he sent down.

In contrast, it took Esh Winning only 17 deliveries to reach the low target of 21 for the loss of one wicket as Carl Turner and Jonathan Rochwood put together an unbroken partnership for the second wicket.

Runs were also at a premium at Crook Town where Brandon won by nine wickets. Batting first the home team managed only 36 for five from the maximum 20 overs with Nick Dalton the only player to reach double figures. Joel Dalby returned two for three in three overs and Robinson had two wickets for five runs in the Brandon attack. Responding the visitors reached the winning margin losing one wicket as Anthony Carse carried his bat for 20.

Etherley realised 111 for seven but Tudhoe were unable to bat when rain caused the abandonment of the match.

Carl Moore struck no fewer than eight boundaries in 40 and Richard Wells carried his bat for 25 while for Tudhoe Lucas Jackson had the impressive figures of three for 28 in five overs and Stephen Newton took two for 24, also from a five overs stint.

Bishop Auckland had made 62 for the loss of five wickets in 15 overs at Shildon when rain stopped play.

Foster's Northumberland Senior League

Under-18s

Tynemouth romped to a ten-wicket victory at home to Bates Cottages scoring the necessary 80 runs in just eight overs as Ian Purdy carried his bat for 44, with eight boundaries and Ben Debnam ended undefeated on 33 with four fours.

Batting first Bates Cottages managed only 79 for seven of which Elliott scored 21 and Baston 20. Michael Phillips was in good form in the Tynemouth attack taking two wickets for six runs in two overs and Richard Hay had three for 19 from the five overs he sent down.

Ponteland defeated Blagden Park by 27 runs. Faced with a target of 99 the visitors were pegged to 61 for nine as Ian Moon returned figures of four for 20 in five overs, George Hall had two for 12 from his five overs spell and Jonathan Appleby picked up a couple of wickets for just one run in two overs.

When Ponteland made first use of the wicket they were pleased that David Irving (54) was in good form. He scored the bulk of the Ponteland total of 98 for seven which also included 24 from Alan Green. Foster, with three for 32 and Herron who took two wickets for seven runs, top performed in the Blagden Park attack.

Tynedale were 100 for seven before rain caused the abandonment of their game with Benwell Hill. Tristrian Douglas had one six and three boundaries making 32 and Liam Rainford ended unbeaten with 24 including three fours for Tynedale, while for Benwell Hill Dawson captured three wickets for only 18 runs.

Under-15s

Sacriston comfortably defeated Consett who were restricted to just 47 for four which included an unbeaten 31 by Williamson with three boundaries. Graham Stephenson was the pick of the Sacriston bowlers with figures of two for nine from five overs.

Batting first Sacriston realised 129 for three which included 45 by Craig Burke who recorded one six and five fours. Rob Hockaday gave good support and he had three boundaries in 29 not out.

Andy Smith led Lintz to victory over Blaydon when he scored 48 out of his team's total of 88 for seven after Blaydon had been restricted to 84 for four.

Tantobie had the better of Lanchester by a seven wickets margin. Faced with a target of 96 they were indebted to Lee who struck seven boundaries top scoring with 48. Glenn Harrison finished unbeaten on 46 which included five fours when Lanchester batted first and ended with 95 for two.

Marcus Peart recorded eight boundaries in 59 not out and Adam Tinnion had one six and seven fours contributing 53 to the Burnopfield total of 135 for two at home to Greenside.

When Liam McVittie captured three wickets for 13 runs in five overs and Stephen Allen took two for 12 from his five overs spell, Greenside were reduced to 58 for seven.

Whickham totalled 82 for three of which Miah Akhtar scored 35 not out before Swalwell went on to win by eight wickets.

Durham Coast League

Under-18s

John Spellman was in magnificent form for Castle Eden when they visited Ryhope.

The talented youngster, who frequently appears in the Castle Eden first team, was undefeated on 102 having hit six sixes and nine boundaries. Richie Ede added 23 with four fours and Castle Eden ended 175 for three from 20 overs.

The target soon proved to be way beyond the reach of Ryhope and when their overs expired they had posted 76 for nine on the scoreboard. Paul Howe top scored with 25 and in the Castle Eden attack Liam Brown had three for 14, Richie Ede two for nine and Carl Kelly two for 19. The trio all bowled four overs each.

Christopher Allen was another player in top form for Hylton and he guided his side to a big win at home to Bill Quay.

Allen struck 85 as a total of 143 for seven was realised even though Phillips took three for 29 and Richardson two for 29 in the visitors attack. When they replied Bill Quay stuttered to 74 all out which included a top scoring 24 by Phillips and for Hylton Liam Foster returned the outstanding figures of five for 12.

The scores in the game between Houghton and Peterlee ended identical. Batting first Houghton reached 108 for four mainly due to the efforts of Bowman with 36 and Craig Dowell (31).

Responding Peterlee ended on 108 for six which included 60 by Griffiths and for Houghton White top performed with the ball returning figures of two for 22.

Seaham Park realised 128 for five and then dismissed Boldon CA for 63. Andrew Docherty was the star of the Seaham Park innings scoring 79 and for Boldon, Straugheir picked up two of the five wickets to fall for 13 runs.

Although Karl Bellerby scored 32, Boldon were never in the Hunt as Docherty took four for 23, McGinn two for four and Riches two for one.

Under-15s

The weather played havoc with the programme and most games were either completely washed out or brought to a premature halt.

Houghton made 125 without losing a wicket at home to Easington, who were unable to start their reply.

Rawl Caren ended undefeated on 47 and Alan Marchant was 52 not out for Houghton.

At Seaham Park the home side were nine for two needing just 57 runs for victory. Ryhope were dismissed for 56 of which Miller top scored with 20 while for the Park Craig Robinson had the outstanding figures of four for four and Thomas Cain picked up two wickets for eight runs.
