YOUNGSTERS from a community arts project kept crowds entertained on Teesside as part of Redcar High Street fun day.

Crowds stood five- deep around a stage as the children from Topline presented popular songs with well-rehearsed dance routines.

Topline student Sonia Herlingshaw, 16, who performed at the event, said: "Today was brilliant. Being involved in the project really develops your confidence and brings you out of yourself and it is great for meeting new people."

Topline has 100 students, aged between five and 18, who get involved with dance, drama and music, and is based at Bankfield School, in Eston, and attracts students from Normanby, Teesville, Guisborough and Redcar.

Tina Lindberg, a parent who helps run Topline, said: "It has been a great performance. This kind of thing really gets them involved in something worthwhile and gives them something to do and keeps them busy.

"They all turn up week after week, which shows they must enjoy themselves."

Other free activities included a stilt-walker, a Punch and Judy show, fairground rides, face-painting and games.

A magician also gave two performances.
