Sedgefield 75: After playing for the Great Britain senior team in the World championships in Barcelona, Carol Mohon and Angela Winstanley Smith (pictured) went straight to Holland for the European Junior championships.

This despite being only 17 and the two youngest ever to be picked for the senior team.

They both played a starring role in the greatest ever performance by Great Britain girls in this championship. They lost by only one goal to Hungary, the leading country in the World over the last five years and whose players earn more than a lot of lower division Football League players in this country.

They defeated the Ukraine 7-5 and France 9-7 to finish in eighth place out of the 16-team championships. Carol was leading scorer for the team and Angie second highest.
