TENANTS are to be asked for their views on a plan to hand council homes over to new management.
Easington District Council is consulting authority housing residents over proposals to set up an Arms Length Management Organisation (Almo).
Under Almo, the council will retain its ownership of its houses but will set up a company to run and manage them.
The Government recently announced that if tenants were in favour of the council's proposals for an Almo, then an extra £117m could be available for the repair and improvement of council homes in the district.
The cash would be in addition to the money the council already expects to have available.
It would be used to ensure that all the council's homes meet the Government's Decent Homes Standard by 2010.
A number of public meetings and roadshows have been arranged to explain how Almo will work and how residents might be affected by it.
