SMORE than 300 teenage drivers will be experiencing the thrill of getting behind the wheel next week without moving an inch.
Driving instructors BSM are taking their £500,000 simulator into schools around the region to offer free lessons to pupils.
The simulator, based on the design of a Vauxhall Corsa, gives learners the chance to become familiar with a car's controls and develop basic skills in steering, clutch control, gears, moving off and stopping.
Students can also try out a computerised bank of theory questions.
BSM roadshow manager Andy Brown said: "Learning to drive is a number one priority for most young people.
"The roadshow gives students the chance to drive a car in a safe and controlled environment and have some fun."
Schools taking part include Spennymoor School, Framwellgate School, Durham, Fyndoune Community College, Sacriston, Sunderland High School and Durham Johnson School.
