THE managers of two amateur football teams involved in an abandoned cup final say there are no hard feelings.

The match between Ferryhill Greyhound and Newton Aycliffe was called off by the referee when spectators invaded the field following a sending-off.

Both teams are now facing a Football Association disciplinary hearing, but the managers say the game could have continued.

Darren Hewitson, player-manager of the Greyhound, said: "I don't want the whole team punished because it wasn't the team, it was a few individuals who spoiled it and those players will never play for me again."

David Sugden, manager and secretary of Newton Aycliffe, said: "We've played each other since then and we all shook hands afterwards."

Mr Sugden said he had known and played with his opposite number for several years. He said: "Our lads are gutted at what's happened."

The Darlington and District League said the final will not be replayed.

The Greyhound has requested a personal hearing with the FA. Newton Aycliffe are considering the options.
