DARLINGTON manager David Hodgson will step up his search for a new striker next week with Middlesbrough's Danny Graham at the top of his summer shopping list, writes LEE HALL.

Despite Boro boss Steve McClaren's intentions to nurture the promising 19-year-old in the reserves next season, Hodgson will explore the possibility of bringing Graham back to the New Stadium on a season-long loan.

The Quakers boss was hugely impressed with Graham during a loan spell last season, in which the Newcastle-born forward netted twice in seven starts.

And Hodgson will be hoping to convince McClaren that Graham's progression in the game will benefit further with competitive action.

"We are looking into bringing Danny back on a season's loan," said Hodgson.

"I know that Middlesbrough would like to take a closer look at Danny after he did so well for us last season but I am hopeful we can sort something out."

In addition, newly-appointed No.2 Mark Proctor could play a major role, having guided Graham through the youth-team ranks in Boro's Academy.

"Mark Proctor knows more about Danny than anyone else," said Hodgson. "We have a very good relationship with Middlesbrough and I think having Proc with us can only help."

Hodgson has yet to make a decision on the future of striker Craig Russell. The 30-year-old is out of contract after his short-term deal expired last month.

Russell will feature in Quakers' pre-season programme, which begins at Whitby Town on Monday night, in the hope of securing a new deal.
