A THREE-LEGGED cat that has used up one of its nine lives is looking for a home.

Five-year-old Sammy has been at The Blue Cross Animal Sanctuary, in Topcliffe, near Thirsk, North Yorkshire, for two months.

When his owner died earlier this year, he and four other cats were left to The Blue Cross as part of a legacy.

The other cats have all been rehomed, leaving Sammy.

Staff at the centre do not know how he lost his leg, but said it was probably the result of a car accident.

Animal behaviour advisor Caroline Thompson said: "He has come from a busy area so he is used to going in and out all day and doing as he pleases.

"He is quite shy to begin with, but once he gets to know you, he is very friendly.

"Cats work just as well with three legs as they do with four, they just get extra muscle in their other legs to support themselves."
