A WASTE recycling company has given £5,000 to charity.

Premier Waste Management, which runs the Kerb-it household recycling collections, donated £1 for every tonne of paper, cans and glass bottles it collected.

Kerbside collections were introduced in Durham, Chester-le-Street and Easington.

Cheques for £1,000 have been presented to civic leaders in each of the districts, and to the leader of the county council, for their chosen charities.

They include St Cuthbert's Hospice in Durham, Chester West Action Group and Chester-le-Street Theatre Group, both in Chester-le-Street, Macmillan Cancer Relief in Easington and Friends of Hardwick Country Park.

* Charities wanting to benefit from Kerb-it should write to Gary Whitehead at Premier Waste Management Ltd, Aykley Heads Business Centre, Aykley Heads, Durham DH1 5TS.
