TWO teenagers were shot at from a speeding car.

The 13-year-old boys were in Salutation Road, Darlington, just before 5pm on Saturday, when they were fired at by someone using an air pistol.

The pellet narrowly missed the boys, who were said to be shocked and terrified, but unhurt.

The car, a white Ford Fiesta with two young men in the front and a female in the back, then sped off.

Arran Lowes, of Salutation Road, whose son was one of the boys involved, said he was shocked at the broad-daylight attack.

"My son and his friend were just on their way home after buying ice creams, and were frightened when they heard this car roaring up behind him, and then firing at them," he said.

"I know I would be frightened if someone fired an air gun at me, let alone two young boys.

"We just think how lucky they have been, it could have been much worse than them just being shaken up. This could have been very serious.

"I've known of people who have had their eyes put out by air guns, and if these guns can kill rats and birds, it makes you wonder what they're capable of.

"My wife won't let our son go out on his own anymore, and he has to come straight home from school.

"These idiots can't be allowed to go around doing this, and next time it could be a lot worse."

Durham Police confirmed they were investigating the incident, and appealed for any witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.

The investigating officer is PC Iredale, who can be contacted on 0845 6060 365.
