A COUNCIL has teamed up with the Environment Agency to inform people about a shipbreaking firm's proposals to carry out the dismantling of the controversial "ghost ships" in the North-East.
Hartlepool Borough Council is helping to organise drop-in sessions for people to learn more about Able UK's plans for recycling the US ships at its Graythorp site in the town.
Three sessions will be held for the public to look at the plans, and discuss them with council and Environment Agency officers.
"Given the high level of public interest in the Able UK proposals, we do want to give people every opportunity to find out as much as possible about the applications," said Stuart Green, the council's assistant director of planning and economic development.
The sessions are from 3.30pm to 7.30pm, at Seaton Carew Sports and Social Club, Elizabeth Way on Tuesday, April 5; at West View Community Centre, Miers Avenue, on Wednesday, April 6, and on Thursday, April 7, at the Civic Centre in Victoria Road.
