GRANDMOTHER Linda Green's car outing with her daughter and two young grandchildren ended in terror because of the antics of a man waving a bottle of cider and banging on her vehicle, a court was told yesterday.

Simon Ostler, prosecuting, said Justin Jackson claimed he was going to smash the windows of her car while it was parked near Cedar Close, in Ripon, on April 1.

Mrs Green, who recognised Jackson, 22, told police he had walked around the car banging on it all the time.

She said: "His language and manner were frightening and he had a bottle of alcohol in his hand.

''I was very shocked and annoyed by this incident and feared that Jackson might attack another person.''

Jackson, of Beech Road, Ripon, pleaded guilty to making threats to break car windows.

In mitigation, Simon Berger said Jackson - who was fined £120 with £80 costs - had gone shopping for cider for his father and to get fresh air after an epileptic fit.

He had believed the car was being driven towards him, was frightened and panicked.
