AN 18-year-old from the region has won a place in the final ten to become Dorothy in a West End production of The Wizard of Oz.

Jessica Robinson impressed Andrew Lloyd Webber with her singing, dancing and acting on BBC1 talent show Over The Rainbow to secure a place in the next show.

The 18-year-old, from Normanby, Middlesbrough, a long-time member of Middlesbrough Youth Theatre, is no stranger to performing live.

At Christmas, she made her professional stage debut in Peter Pan at the Sunderland Empire.

Jessica, who lives with her mother, father, brother and dog, said she was proud of her home town and wanted to prove to people that there was talent in Middlesbrough.

She said singing in front of Andrew Lloyd Webber at her audition was the best thing that had happened to her, and said: “It was totally life-changing.”

Emilie Fleming, 19, from South Tyneside, will find out on Saturday night if she has been chosen to stay in the competition.
