Blackbeard Productions is proposing to film scenes in York’s Shambles

IT was recently named Britain’s most picturesque street – now York’s Shambles has received another boost, with plans to film part of a Hollywood film there.

Blackbeard Productions has told traders it is proposing to film scenes for the next instalment of the Pirates Of The Caribbean saga in the medieval street.

September 6 has been pencilled in as a likely date for filming.

Location manager Michael Harm said nothing had been confirmed yet, and he was unable to say whether the film’s main star, Johnny Depp, would be treading the cobbles.

Mr Harm said the Shambles was only one of a number of locations being considered.

He said: “It is very early days. We are examining the feasibility of various places.”

The Shambles already has a pedigree as a film set; scenes for TV drama Robinson Crusoe, starring Sean Bean, were filmed there in 2008.

Philippa Johnson, of longestablished Shambles business Cox of Yorkshire, said: “We’re very excited at the prospect of filming Pirates here.

“It would be great publicity.

“If Johnny Depp was involved, they might need to bring in crowd control, though.”

Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides will also star Penelope Cruz and Lovejoy’s Ian McShane as Black Beard.
