Appeal for witnesses after sexual assault in Hartlepool

A WOMAN suffered a serious sexual assault as she returned home from a night out.

The 22-year-old victim, who had been out celebrating a friends fancy dress themed birthday, was attacked in Rothmere Way, Hartlepool, at about 5am this morning.

She took a taxi a taxi from Church Street to Stockton Road.

The suspect is described as male, about 5ft 10ins tall and in his early to mid 20s.

Detective Sergeant Jim Allen, of Hartlepool Police said the woman was shaken and is appealing for witnesses to come forward.

The victim is under observation in the University Hospital of Hartlepool.
