A CITY centre pub had to be evacuated after a kitchen fire last night.

Three appliances were called to the blaze at The Windmill, in Blossom Street, York shortly before 7pm last night.

More than 150 drinkers had to leave the pub when the fire started in the kitchen.

Firefighters spent an hour-and-a-half clearing the scene and said there had been smoke damage to the three storey building.

It is believed the fire was caused by a faulty deep fat fryer.
