A CHEF was thrown across a kitchen after suffering an electric shock from a pizza oven.
The 26-year-old was blasted with 240 volts as he worked in the Marco Polo restaurant, in York Road, Hartlepool.
Police closed the premises following the incident at around 6.45pm on Monday.
The victim was taken by ambulance to the University Hospital of Hartlepool, but was released after receiving treatment.
It is thought the accident happened as he was putting a pizza into the oven.
Inspector Nick Owen, of Hartlepool Police, said: A member of staff working in the kitchen area was given an electric shock by what is thought to be a faulty oven.
He received a jolt and was thrown to the floor by the force. The pizza oven had become live at some point. His injuries were not life-threatening.
The Health and Safety Executive recommended the restaurant was closed while investigations were carried out.
