Police release Sunderlan bus assault CCTV photo


Police have released CCTV images of a man they want to speak to after a woman was assaulted in Sunderland.

At shortly before 6.45pm on Wednesday, March 3, a 42-year-old woman got of the Number Four Stagecoach bus on Millhill Road at the junction with Gayhurst Crescent.

She was followed off the bus by a man who then approached her on Gayhurst Crescent.

He grabbed her from behind and put his hands over her neck and mouth. The woman struggled and the man ran off towards Monkswood.

The man is described as around 5'8" tall, of medium build and was wearing a khaki green or grey hooded top.

Detective Sergeant John Miller said: "We are still investigating the motivation behind this assault and I am asking that anyone who was in the area at the time and who may have seen anything suspicious, or who may have been a passenger on the bus, contact police."

Police have today released CCTV stills of a man seen in the area at the time of the offence. Officers are keen to speak to him as he may have important information about the attack.
