POLICE have refused to comment on claims by investigative journalist Donal MacIntyre that officers investigating the disappearance of York chef Claudia Lawrence were too fixated on her private life.
Mr MacIntyre said 'lurid descriptions' of Miss Lawrence's private life by North Yorkshire Police had damaged the investigation and amounted to nothing more than a character assassination.
His comments, in a national newspaper, come just days before the one year anniversary of Miss Lawrence's disappearance on her way to work at the University of York, on March 18.
In a statement North Yorkshire Police said: "This coming Thursday is the first anniversary of when Claudia Lawrence was last seen alive.
"Both the police and her loved ones will be using this sad occasion to keep Claudia at the forefront of the public's mind in the hope that somebody, somewhere, will come forward with information that could help to explain her disappearance.
"The police will also give an update on the intensive investigation. In the meantime we will not be commenting on speculation."
