Woman injured after falling from horse

A WOMAN was airlifted to hospital after falling from her horse today.

The 21-year-old was rushed to James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough with suspected spinal injuries.

But tonight people who know the woman said her injuries were not as serious as first thought.

The incident happened shortly before noon at Newstead Riding Centre on Hurworth Moor, near The Northern Echo Darlington Arena.

A spokesman for the Great North Air Ambulance, which assisted at the scene, said: "One lady had fallen off her horse, and was suffering with bad pain to her lower back.

"We took precautionary measures with a spinal board and collar."

A member of staff at Newstead Riding Centre, who wished to remain anonymous, said: "She came off the horse. I've spoken to her dad and he says she's fine."

I don't know who the member of staff was as we don't have any - my wife manages the centre and that is not what she told the Echo!

However, I am pleased to report that our client is expected to recover from severe spinal bruising after falling from her horse today and also wish to thank the paramedics and crew of the GNAA for their professionalism and quick response.
