12 rescued after arson attacks

TWO suspected arson attacks resulted in 12 people being rescued from their homes.

The first blaze was discovered in the hallway of a property in Coatham Road, Redcar at about 1.20am this morning. Seven adults and three children had to be rescued from self-contained flats.

The second fire broke out at an address in Station Road ten minutes later.

Police believe the two fires are linked and are treating them as suspicious.

A 30-year-old man from the Redcar area has been arrested and is in police custody.
