Getting teeth into NHS dentist campaign

9:05am Monday 8th February 2010

HEALTH chiefs have launched a campaign to highlight the availability of NHS dentists in parts of the region.

NHS County Durham and Darlington believes it has more NHS dentists than people might think – almost 80.

Dr Az Hyder works with the trust helping to ensure dental services run effectively and is a partner in the Burgess and Hyder Dental Group.

Dr Hyder usually works from Ferryhill, County Durham, one of eight of the group’s practices, and is urging people who might not have seen a dentist in years to make an appointment.

He said: “NHS dentistry has really improved. There are more NHS dentists, treating people in welcoming environments, with new technology and a modern approach which cares for the patient, not just teeth.”

Dr Hyder has been a dentist for 18 years and has spent 17 of those working in the County Durham area.

He said: “I believe it’s everyone’s right to be able to access highquality, affordable NHS dental care.”
