A DELEGATION of Labour MPs have persuaded the Prime Minister to personally help in a last ditch battle to save the threatened Corus plant in Redcar.

With 1,700 staff facing redundancy in the new year, Vera Baird, Ashok Kumar and Dari Taylor, travelled up to Scotland with the intention of getting Gordon Brown to speak directly to senior executives of parent group Tata in India.

Time is running out to stop the closure of Teesside Cast Products but the three MPs are hopeful the government will be able to broker a last minute deal to find a buyer.

Redcar MP Mrs Baird said: "I was able to update the Prime Minister regarding the detail of my involvement over the last year, and in particular recent discussions and some options for moving forward.

"The Prime Minister said he would take these away, do more work and ensure consideration was given over the next few days. There was a real sense of urgency, which we welcomed.

"We have now got to keep going - anything that has to be done, will be done."

When you look at the photograph all you see is a group of no-hopers, what chance have the Corus workers when a group as selfserving as these are wait untill the last minute before trying to get the biggest waste of time of the lot, Brown, to try and save the workers jobs, I hope this is remembered when the general election comes around.

Its not GB trying to save Corus its clearly 100% Labour trying to save their pathetic worthless selves from getting decimated in the next election.
I dont know why they are worrying theres more than enough idiots still in the NE who wioll vote Labour cos their dads did or cos their shop stewards tell them to.

I forcast the Labour MPs in the NE keeping their seats and the north east continuing to decline and fail as it has done consistantly for the last 50 years thanks to the Labour party.

Bit late by Dari Taylor, but even so if the Tories win Stockton South they'll have a Commons majority. People can safely vote Labour to stop them without Brown preserving his own majority, whereas further up the Tory target list in Scarborough voting Labour is too risky.  A win there probably secures another Labour majority so in Scarborough the Tories must be backed to stop them.
