Ski resort death student 'had been drinking'

A 23-year-old North-East student who was found dead in a Swiss ski resort after going missing a week earlier had been drinking, police said today.

Newcastle University Graduate Myles Robinson, from Wandsworth, south-west London, was on holiday with his family when he fell to his death following a night out.

Swiss police said a post mortem examination on his body revealed the presence of an alcohol level which was the equivalent of eight small bottles of beer.

Mr Robinson was last seen in the early hours of Tuesday, December 22 as he walked a family friend back to her hotel in Wengen from the Blue Monkey bar.

He was staying with his family at the Hotel Eiger, only a few hundred yards away.

Police scoured the hotel where the family were staying using sniffer dogs and the Swiss army was called in to help with helicopter searches of the area.

His body was found on Monday at the bottom of a 330-foot cliff in Lauterbrunnen, some distance from the village.

Police in the canton of Bern said their investigations continued but the tourist's death appeared to have been an accident.

Mr Robinson, who also studied at Charterhouse school, was reportedly due to start a new job with a financial services company next week.

The Robinson family has visited the resort for 15 years.
