A 50-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder this morning after another man’s body was found near allotments in Shildon, County Durham.
Police have not yet named the dead man, who is believed to be in his 50s and from the Shildon area.
They said they believed they knew who he is, although he has not yet been formally identified.
He was discovered soon after 9am by a dog walker on a path next to allotments near Sunnydale Leisure Centre.
The area around the path was cordoned off for forensic examination and a post mortem is being carried out today to establish the cause of death.
Detectives are asking anyone who may have seen or heard anything suspicious in the area between 7.30 and nine o’clock to contact them by calling 0345-60-60-365 or the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800-555-111.
